With the festive season going, it is obvious for us, makeup addicts to get pulled into bright colors, isn’t it? Today, I am here with the review of a liquid lipstick from ColourPop in shade “Kismet”. I bought this few months back, but used just once or twice. I don’t usually reach much for bright orange or red unless there is any special occasion. Now that festivity is in full swing, back to back Diwali parties, holiday parties, etc., I am daring to wear reds and dark oranges a bit more;). Let’s jump into the review of ColourPop Kismet Ultra Satin Lip.

My Experience with ColourPop Kismet Ultra Satin Lip:
Packaging: The liquid lipstick comes in a standard plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator attached to its silver colored cap. The tube has the brand name and the type “ultra satin” written on it. The name of the lipstick is mentioned at the bottom of the tube. The tube is clear in color; so, the exact shade of the lipstick is seen through the tube. The advantage is that you always get to know how much of lipstick is left in the tube. The packaging is very convenient and lightweight.
Shade: “Kismet” is a bright reddish orange color. From certain angle it looks completely red. It is too bright to wear, hence I like to wear this color on special occasions (It is just my preference).
Formula: The satin formula from ColourPop is very comfortable on my lips. Since it is satin finish, it won’t dry completely and would transfer a bit. I manage it by blotting my lips with tissue paper, especially these kind of bright shades needs this extra step. I have other shades from ColourPop satin lipsticks and I have seen a hit and miss in this formula. This shade needed layering to be completely opaque. I expected great saturation of color in one pass, considering the brightness of color; but, it was not so. I needed to be extra careful in the application as this color can get messy if not applied with great precision especially around the edges of the lips. This formula is not moisturizing on the lips yet it won’t dry out the lips. There is a very slight tackiness on the lips which can only be felt if you press your lips together. I was not much of a concern as the formula was not sticky.
Lasting Power: Once applied, the shade “Kismet” stayed well for 6 to 7 hours with out re-application. It did transfer on to my chin when I had a burger, but it did not affect the intensity of the color on my lips. I managed to roam around without reapplication.
Conclusion: If you like bright colors, you might like this shade. The shade can look good on multiple skin tones. The only issue was its application. I expected the shade to have uniform application in one pass, but it needed at least 3 passes to look uniform on my lips. This might be an issue to some. For me, with bright colors, I want the application to be smooth. If not applied properly, these kind if colors can look unflattering on the face.
Pros of ColourPop Kismet Ultra Satin Lip:
- Packaging is sturdy yet lightweight.
- Formula is comfortable on lips and not drying.
- Color lasts for a long time even with food and drinks in-between.
- Price is very affordable.
Cons of ColourPop Kismet Ultra Satin Lip:
- Application is tricky.
- Color can easily transfer, so you need to keep on checking your face after meals/snacks. Blotting with tissues/blotting papers can help in reducing the transfer to a certain extent, though not completely.
